Freshly Squeezed Lemonade by Billy

A friendly neighbor, back in Temecula, gave us an enormous bag of lemons. Between us and our housemates, we've put them to good use. We love lemons and dessert, thus the Lemon Bars, and soon-to-be-posted Lemon Blackberry Souffle. Along with the obvious uses for dessert, lemons can be perfectly showcased in savory dishes as well. Check out our Chicken Piccata, or heat your tortillas with a slice of lemon for complimentary aromatics for your Mexican dishes.

We had so many lemons to go around, we brought half of the bag with us to Arizona for the move. Billy has made lemonade on a few occasions, before and after the move, and I have to share it with you! It is super delicious, not too sweet, perfectly tangy, and refreshing for warm days coming our way. I love my husband for doing things like this to make a day more special.

Freshly Squeezed Lemonade
Serves: 6 Time: 15-30 min
Original Recipe by Billy

1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 12 small lemons)
1 1/4 unrefined sugar
2 1/2 cups water
3 1/2 - 4 1/2 cups water, to taste
Reserved lemon slices

How To: 
1) Squeeze lemons, set juice aside.

2) Make simple syrup: combine sugar and water over medium heat until dissolved. Let cool to room temperature.

3) Combine simple syrup with lemon juice. Add plenty of ice, with rest of water to taste. Decorate lemonade pitcher with sliced lemons. Enjoy your drink of sunshine!
